Why does the install hang?

On Windows NT we have seen (and had reported to us) the installation hanging in two places. The course of action depends on where the hang occurs.

  1. If the hang occurs whilst the Setup dialogue shows "Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge is preparing the InstallShield(R) wizard which will guide you through the rest of the setup process. Please Wait" and the 100% progress bar is displayed:

    Be patient and wait (up to 5 minutes) and the installation will continue as normal. This appears to occur on other company's InstallShield installations too and so we do not think this is a problem specific to the OOB installation.

    Make sure you have closed all applications before installing.

  2. If the hang occurs after you have run through all the dialogue boxes and provided all the installation information requested:

    You are probably running a version of the OOB including and prior to version 1.0.0.3. These versions contained a bug in the InstallShield supplied service template that can cause it to loop forever waiting for the previously installed OOB Server Service to close down. The solution in this case is to either:

    1. Get a more recent version of OOB which fixes this problem.

    2. Abort the installation (use the Task Manager). Then go to control panel -> services and make sure the OOB Server Service is stopped (it probably will be). Then run the installation again and it should progress correctly.
